Greenpeace statement on G8 text

Statement by Daniel Mittler, Greenpeace International's cliamte expert

Daniel Mittler, Greenpeace International’s climate expert says:

“The G8 have failed the world again. While the Artic is melting, the G8 are
postponing action. Instead of climate protection, the world got nothing but
flowery words. If this is a step forward, we will never prevent climate chaos
in time. The 2050 vision will be a nightmare, unless the world ends its fossil
fuel addiction and starts an energy revolution based on renewable energies and
energy efficiency – now! But an oil man from Texas has again prevented the
decisive action the world needs.

The G8’s 2050 vision will be a nightmare, unless the world ends its fossil fuel
addiction and starts an energy revolution based on renewable energies and
energy efficiency – now! Instead of creating solutions, they are continuing to
fuel the problem. The World Bank Climate Investment Funds that the G8 has
announced do not exclude coal – the world’s most polluting energy source. The
World Bank Funds are a step in the wrong direction. The only good news from
this summit is that it is Bush’s last.”
