NACAA statement on EPA ANPR
Statement by National Association of Clean Air Agencies on July 11, 2008
“The other shoe has dropped. It is terribly disappointing that the White House has not only restricted the rights of states to regulate greenhouse gases from motor vehicles, it is now postponing the decision to develop a federal regulatory greenhouse gas program under the Clean Air Act in response to last year’s Supreme Court decision. While we prefer enactment of mandatory comprehensive climate change legislation, the Clean Air Act can serve as a useful tool in providing additional regulatory authority until—and even after—legislation is adopted. What is eminently clear is that greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare and governments at all levels must work urgently to ameliorate their adverse effects.”
